A Toast, who am I kidding, many toasts.

June 25th, 2007

There will be a gathering at Rumors Tuesday June 25th starting around 5:30 pm to raise our glasses to John Hartnett.  Rumors is located on the west side of 8th Avenue between 55th and 56th street.  I apologize for the late post.  I actually entered it on Sunday but forgot to hit the ‘PUBLISH’ button and did not realize it until today.

John and myself have hoisted a few in memory of friends that have passed at the Ye Olde Tripple Inn.  I am sure many of you have as well.  Now it is time to do the same for John.  It was an honor to know him and it will be an honor to toast him.  I already miss you deeply, John.

The Final Bow

John Hartnett

As some of you may know already, it is with great sorrow and a vast treasure trove of fond remembrances that we must inform you of John Hartnett’s passing this past weekend. We are privileged to tell you that he left us peacefully, in his sleep, listening the the music that was his great passion. There will be a gathering at his apartment this Sunday afternoon, June 24.

So many people we have spoken with have told us that he was the first person they met at the Tripple Inn, and of all the kindness and good cheer he imparted to us all. Many of us knew him as Johnny Opera, the classy gent with the wicked smile and the rapier wit, a man of great intelligence, compassion and savior faire. We know we all have many stories to share with each other at this time, to honor John and to bid him adieu. We feel sure he is hearing the sweetest music of all now, and that he has a front row seat for the show.

We (and we are sure many of you) picture John standing at the end of the bar, tuxedo-clad, cigarette holder clenched in his teeth. He chuckles in his own unique way and raises his glass to toast the current good idea or funny line. For this reason, we would also like to arrange a meeting sometime soon at a local watering hole to toast Johnny Opera one more time. We’ll keep you informed. For more information on Sunday’s gathering, send an email to the following address: operaman@akwebb.com.

Mothers Day Silliness

Here is link to a Youtube video of Willa and Larry wishing Mom a happy Mothers Day. Good for a couple of laughs.

Let’s try this again.

The Bassenettes are going to be at the A&M Roadhouse on Friday April 20th.  This time I don’t think we have to worry about having to cancel the show because of the weather.  It’s just a couple of blocks away from the Chambers Street Subway Station.   I hope to see a lot of Trippers there.

Nice View

March 28th, 2007

I finally have been working on the Photo Gallery again since it died when I moved to a new server and have 1 photo on it with many more to come.  Hopefully this will make up for not getting the photo gallery working for so long. It is a panorama made from multiple photos of The Tripple that I took a week before it closed. I don’t know who that is sitting at the end of the bar.

Enjoy and try not to get any tears on your keyboard.

Holiday Gathering

November 27th, 2006

Hello all and Happy Holidays.  I just got off the phone with Mr. Mike Cangro and he tells me there will be a gathering of Tripplers at Rumors (8th Ave. between 55th and 56th) on Wed. Nov. 28th starting between 5-5:30pm.  By then all of the TRIPtophan (yes, I know its spelled tryptophan but thats no fun) is out of your system from the loads of Thanksgiving Turkey you have been eating and you will be able to get up and join everyone for a holiday drink or two.  It’s hard to believe that is has been almost a year since YOTI closed its doors.  Seems like a perfect time for some reminiscing and good cheer.

Ideas anyone?

September 19th, 2006

Well, The Bassenettes will no longer be playing at the A&M Roadhouse in downtown Manhattan.  The owner is moving the club in a different musical direction.  Now we have to find a new home in The Big Apple.  If anyone has any suggestions about clubs/bars that would like to rock Bassenettes Style please let us know.  It has gotten very difficult to find places that will take on live music these days.  Unfortunately The Tripple was only one of many to vanish leaving a void in live entertainment especially in Midtown.

Basssssssenettes!

July 13th, 2006

The Bassenettes will be playing at:

The A&M Roadhouse
Wednesday July 19th. 9pm
57 Murray St.
New York, NY 10007
(212) 385-9005

Gordon is no longer the sound engineer at the A & M but The Bassenettes are chipping in to hire him for the evening to keep him in the mix. No Trippler left behind!

As I write this I envy the people who will be enjoying this gig since I will not be in attendance because of severe deadlines at work.

Enjoy the show,
Andrew
